Raw Vegetables and Fruits. Raw vegetables and fruits contain fiber and these fiber rich foods will add bulk to your stool making them effective constipation foods. Also, these raw fruits and vegetables are much easier to digest compared with protein rich foods like meats.
High Fiber Foods. High fiber foods not only include fruits and vegetables. These also include oatmeal and cereal products like bran, wheat bread, white rice and brown rice, etc. High fiber products make more than just good constipation foods since they also keep our colon clean and healthy from free radicals.
Yogurt. Yogurt contains a lot of good bacteria or probiotics which are of great significance to our overall digestive health. The bacteria that can be found in yogurts speeds up digestion and fights off the harmful bacteria which creates imbalance inside our colon.
Fluid Intake. Although not considered as constipation foods, water and fluid intake is equally significant because it keeps the fecal material soft and moist, thus easily passable in the anus.
Constipations Foods to Avoid.
High Cholesterol and Fatty Foods. High cholesterol foods, apart from being difficult and taking more time to digest, leads to constipation because fats tend to cling and accumulate in the lumen of the colon. Too much fats in the colon lumen will not promote an efficient peristalsis of our colon, thus leading to frequent bouts with constipation.
Commercialized Foods. Commercialized foods are also constipation foods to avoid since they contain chemicals and preservatives which are hard to digest and process. Thus, it also leads to frequent occurrence of constipation.
Making sure you keep a list of these constipation foods to take and avoid is important, as well as knowing them by heart. With that, you can be assured of less frequent, if not a complete relief from constipation.
