An evaluation was done recently on five hundred adults. They were asked how many colds they got during the year. They were also asked how often they exercised in more than just a mild way. This physical exertion was more than just normal household duties. A short trip walking would not be included on the list as “exercise”. Those who did the most active exercise received twenty five per cent less colds during the year. The point here is that a good round of exercise, one that is a bit tiring, is a way to avoid a cold or flu. During the Winter months therefore, you can help your own body ward off the cold or flu by being not just more active, but by actually partaking in strenuous exercise. Remember the old saying; ” No pain, no gain. “.

Winter affections: Laryngitis or the loss of voice

Although the cold season has its joyful moments that we all adore, like Christmas, New Year’s Eve, snowflakes and winter sports, we all have to admit that winter comes with unpleasant things too. Simple or more severe colds, bronchitis, sore throats and running noses are all elements of the winter season we would like to avoid as much as possible as they interfere with the good going of our lives.

Let’s take laryngitis as an example. This affection is quite unpleasant as you simply loose your voice and no matter how hard you try to get it back you just can’t do it. Besides a sore throat other symptoms might not be present, so you can’t say you feel sick.

Learn how to protect yourself and your family against flu

We all know that flu is not just a simple cold that affects us during the winter. Flu is a condition caused by the influenza virus (type A, B or C), is quite easy transmittable from one person to another and unfortunately it does not have a miraculous treatment to make it disappear fast.

It is good to know that the influenza virus is not very long lasting in the nature, especially if exposed to the sunlight, and it can be easily removed from our homes if we ventilate the rooms every day. The virus can survive outside the human body in dark, unventilated places and at low temperatures.

You might wonder how come the virus is so contagious, how it can pass from one person to another. Here is the explanation: when an infected person sneezes or coughs or even breaths close enough to another healthy person then the virus will be transported through minuscule saliva particles towards the other person and then inhaled by it.
