Most people survive after having Prostate Cancer operation
Dr. Timothy Daskivich of the University of California says that “We often don’t know what to tell these men in terms of their risk of dying of prostate cancer.”
ProstateCancer can be detected only by doing blood test which measures concentrations of prostate-specific antigen , a protein that was made in prostate that becomes elevated in men with prostate cancer.
If it is treated with the radiation or by doing surgery then prostate-specific antigen levels are checked ,if it shows any increase in prostate-specific antigen levels then it is sign of recurrence of prostate cancer. Biochemical recurrence means rising in prostate-specific antigen levels after having treatment may sometimes lead to death in man is not clear.
Rectal cancer rates increasing gradually
Recent studies states that rectal cancer was gradually increasing in the Americans below the age of 40, but colon cancer rates are remained constant for years.
This study had examined information from US Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results. It also observed data from 1973 and 2005 regarding rectal cancer cases. SEER also having the data on nearly percent of cancer cases in the America. It had diagnosed colon and rectal cancer in 7,661 people below age of 40.
This study states that
Over years rates of rectal and colon cancer were low.
Colon cancer rates were constant over years.
Since 1984, rectal cancer cases were increasing steadily over the years.
Doctors also say that when a person reports with rectal bleeding he must be tested with endoscopic evaluation for the signs of rectal cancer.
Normally these are symptoms are normally seen for hemorrhoids.
According to CDC ,More teenagers get vaccinated
Recent reports from U.S -Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that nearly 40percent of girls only received one dosage of new vaccine, which fights against a virus that causes cervical and other types cancers.
More teenagers had already received a booster shot that prevents whooping cough, tetanus, diphtheria from surveying 20,000 teens between 13 to 17 years.
Dr. Anne Schuchat said”We can see that more parents of adolescents are electing to protect their children from serious diseases such as pertussis (whooping cough), meningitis, and cervical cancer but there is clear room for improvement in our system’s ability to reach this age group.”
In addition to this, many whooping cough cases were reported this year significantly in California with nearly 3000 cases. Because infants are more likely to infected by various diseases than elders. This survey also revealed that 56 percent of teenagers had one dosage of tetanus-diphtheria-acellular pertussis vaccine, also known as Tdap .
Cancer is becoming a Killer disease
Cancer is increasing in the world at an alarming rate; nearly 80% of overall increase is from the poor and middle revenue countries like India and Africa. Only 5 percent of the global resources for reduction of the cancer is only spent in the developing countries. Dr Reddy and his colleagues says that cancer is becoming a main reason for death and disability.
At present, the main killer disease in the world is cancer than heart diseases. In 2008 nearly 7.6 billion was died of cancer, an increase in 12.4 million every year. Out of this cases – it is estimated that 75% from low income countries,71 percent from low-middle income countries, 64% from high-middle income countries, and 46% from high income countries .
“We propose that cancer care and control become rapidly and broadly available as quickly as possible with the focus on cancers that can be prevented or cured, or, for cases in which neither is possible, palliated,” the panel observed.
This is the conclusion of a report — “Expansion of Cancer Care and Control in Countries of Low and Middle income: A Call to Action” — published in the medical journal.
Cancer Patients Awaiting Funds
Failure of setting up a £200 million fund for cancer drugs could spell trouble for hundreds of cancer patients. The Tories had promised the fund for the patients, who are in need funds for treatment. But the government is denying any guarantee for the fund.
If The Rarer Cancers Foundation is to be believed, then nearly 3,600 cancer patients could succumb to the deadly disease even if half of the mentioned funds are made available.
However, the medical journal Lancet termed the fund as ‘indefensible’ and criticized that the funds may lead to postcode lottery. It may be injustice on patients suffering from multiple sclerosis and dementia who face similar difficulties in getting access to good treatment.
The Rarer Cancers Foundation is arguing that the fund is highly needed as the number of cancer patients in need of access to drugs is high and ever-increasing. The charity also asked the manufacturers to reduce the medicine prices.
