SYMPTOMS

Evaluation of signs and symptoms is very important in diagnosing health problems and in monitoring progress of diseases diagnosed. In addition, evaluation of signs and symptoms is very important in drug treatment to determine efficacy of treatment and in occurrence of side effects.

What is a symptom?
Refer to exhibiting symptoms of a disease. A symptom is a phenomenon seen only by the patient (eg, anxiety, back pain and fatigue). The other hand, objective signs of disease manifestations are observable by the patient, doctor, nurse, etc..

What is a sign?
The sign refers to the objective manifestations of a disease that can be seen by other people and not only by the patient. Blood in stool is a sign. It can be seen by the patient, doctor and nurse. Instead, the symptoms are, by nature, subjective. Abdominal pain is a symptom, because it is perceived only by the patient.
