Symptoms of Bulimia Nervosa
Though it is not very easy to identify the presence of eating disorder of bulimia in a person but if you observe the person’s overall behavior minutely it can be identified successfully. The obvious symptoms of bulimia are discussed here precisely to give an understanding about this type of eating disorder. Persons suffering from bulimia:
* Experience repeated episodes of binge and purge
* Feel lose of self control while eating something.
* Have extreme fear of gaining extra weight and having unattractive and bulky appearance.
* Feel ashamed of them for being imperfect and unbalanced persons.
* Show extreme secrecy about discussing their habit of overeating.
* Use to talk about dieting and taking excessive care of themselves.
* Collect or store large amount food items in their food store or refrigerator.
* Take too much exercise to lose weight as soon as possible.
* Show irregular weight loss and gain.
* Show imbalances in various elements present inside human body like potassium, calcium and iron etc.
* Suffer from tooth decay, sore gum and swollen salivary glands.
* Have dry skin, hair and nails.
* Have the feeling of fullness or bloating.
* Show lack of energy and interest in normal life activities.
* Have excessive use of diuretics and laxatives to solve digestive problems.
Bulimia is Hard to Diagnose
Though these symptoms are enough to detect the presence of bulimia in any person but still in some cases it is hard to find out the reality about this disorder when patient himself denies its presence completely. Such denial can be caused by lack of confidence to discuss personal problem or even lack of awareness about the presence of such abnormal condition. Moreover in some cases where patient is involved in substance abuse or suffering from other mental problems including anxiety or depression, it is often mixed with other problems and cannot be identified as a separate mental illness. So if someone is experiencing above symptoms he must go the health specialist to diagnose the problem properly rather then selecting his own ways of treatment to deal with the problem.
How can I Prevent Bulimia?
Remember that there is no specific way to prevent the development of bulimia. One can prevent it by identifying and treating it as soon as possible. Moreover a positive thinking pattern can further facilitates the situation because in most of the cases the main reason is having negative approach in analyzing one’s own personality traits which makes a person over conscious and oversensitive about himself and results in such abnormal state of mind and body.
