Diagnosis of Paranoid Personality Disorder
If a person is showing symptoms of being hypersensitive and over suspicious about other people living around him then he must be completely checked up by a professional physician to evaluate his disturbed condition of mind. As far as the specific diagnostic techniques for evaluating a person for paranoid personality disorder are concerned then there is no specific diagnostic test or strategy for it. Both physicians and psychiatrists apply various diagnostic tools to find out the main reason of such abnormality in patient’s personality.
Diagnostic Techniques Applied by Physician
Doctors or physicians usually evaluate the previous medical history of the patient and take complete physical examination to get the actual condition. As paranoid personality disorder is said to be run in families particularly those already having schizophrenic patients among them, therefore the genetic factor involved in this mental illness is diagnosed through physical examination. But genetic factor is not the only factor for developing paranoid personality disorder therefore in some cases no such evidence in previous medical reports and current medical examination is found which can prove the presence of this mental problem. In such condition when physicians fail to find any solid justification or physical illness then they recommend such patient to be diagnosed by professional mental care specialists who have enough knowledge and experience in handling such mental disorders.
Diagnostic Techniques Applied by Psychiatrists and Psychologists
When a patient comes under diagnostic process of mental health professionals either psychiatrists or psychologists, both of them also apply various psychological diagnostic techniques to evaluate the patient’s condition accurately. These psychological techniques mainly include interviews with patient’s family, friends and colleagues and behavioral assessment tools including questionnaires or behavioral analysis in particular situations in clinical environment. These things helps them a lot to get the actual reason for paranoid personality disorder developing in a patient when no physical problem is present at all.
During interviews with the people living with such patient a mental health care specialist gets complete information about patient’s likes and dislikes, attachments and deviations, reactions and retaliations on various events and above all his habit of trusting or distrusting about other people. Moreover the psychiatrist himself asks questions to a patient about various social matters and gets his inner thoughts and ideas about that particular matter. Such data collection process and then complete analysis of this data makes them able to find out the real factor creating such abnormal thinking pattern in a patient.
