Causes of Paranoid Personality Disorder  

As far as the causes of paranoid personality disorder are concerned then there found no specific factor or reason resulting in such abnormal state of thinking pattern of a person. Various factors particularly the genetic factor is mainly considered responsible behind all such absurd psychological state. Long term research has proved that most of the patients of paranoid personality disorder already have such patients in their families. Research also reveals the relation between paranoid personality disorder and schizophrenia because majority of patients also have shown schizophrenic symptoms or family history of schizophrenic disorder.

Socio-environmental comes next in the list of causes behind paranoid personality disorder. Parental nature, attitude and the way they brought up their child matters a lot in building a normal level of understanding things on factual basis rather than having mistrust or blind trust about any thing or any person. If parents are not fulfilling their duties properly and a child is not learning to believe his parents then such home environment which involve mistrust among parents and children often results in distorted personality development of a child with such kind of personality disorder. Therefore parental modeling also included in the factors developing such abnormalities in their children.  

Prevalence of Paranoid Personality Disorder 

The prevalence of paranoid personality disorder is about 2% to 10% in total abnormality related cases treated in mental health care clinics. As far its prevalence in general population is concerned, it is about 0.5% to 2.5% normally. Gender also matters a lot when it comes to discus the occurrence of paranoid personality disorder. This personality disorder is mostly found in males as compared to females. The number of patients treated in clinical environment mostly comprises male patients. Therefore it is believed that the ratio of females suffering from paranoid personality disorder is lower than that of males on the basis of gender factor involved in its occurrence.            

People having negative intentions, feelings or beliefs are also more likely to suffer from paranoid personality disorder at any stage of their life as compared to those having positive and friendly thought pattern. Because of having pessimism and prejudice in all matters and about relations of life such people are not liked in their social circle and people tend to avoid them. This thing makes them more suspicious about their behavior which is only an outcome of their own abnormal way of social dealing.
