Common cold is defined as an inflammation of the upper respiratory tract. As it names suggests, this ailment occurs more than any other form of ailment and happens due to some viral infection.

  1. Lime juice is one of the easiest and important home remedies for this ailment. This juice should be mixed with warm water and honey (a glass and teaspoon respectively). This remedy is best for dry cough and cold related problems.
  2. Another good home remedy involves consuming garlic supplements or garlic soup. This is because it contains natural antiseptic properties. Moreover, the sufferer can also drink garlic oil mixed with water and onion juice.
  3. Another remedy includes cutting ginger and boiling it in water. This mixture should be strained and drunk. A teaspoon of sugar can be added for taste.
  4. The diet for curing common cold involves taking few basil seeds and mixing it with same amount of ginger. These should be mixed and then ground into a powdery mixture. Few grams of this mixture should be consumed in morning and evening. This diet helps in curing some of the severe symptoms of common cold.
  5. Hot packs and baths are recommended to every individual suffering from common cold. These relieve the patient from nasal and chest congestion. Inhaling hot water steam can also relive the congested tissues in nasal area.
  6. Few milligrams of asafetida (roasted) should be added in a cup of warm milk. This drink should be drunk slowly twice a day as it is an effective home remedy for common cold.
  7. There are a number of over the counter creams and supplements which can be mixed with hot water steam to ensure that the effectiveness of steam is enhanced. Moreover, adding garlic or ginger in the steam can also work effectively in treating common cold.
