Secretion of hydrochloric acid in the stomach is very vital for the proper functioning of the digestive system. Hydrochloric acid helps in producing various enzymes that break down and digest the food we eat. When this acid is excessively produced, it results in a condition called acidity.

The usual symptom of acidity is burning sensation in the stomach. In a long run it may give rise to other symptoms like improper digestion of the food, ulcers, gastritis, constipation and other disorders. There are various causes of acidity, the main being improper food habits and lifestyle. Stress and anxiety is also found out to cause acidity.

However there are many natural remedies to cure and control acidity. Let us take a look at some:

  1. Drinking a glass of fresh mint juice everyday is the best remedy for acidity.
  2. Drinking milk and taking milk products also helps in treating acidity.
  3. Cloves are very good remedies. Sucking a clove after meals cures acidity.
  4. Boil cumin seeds and bring the water to half. Drinking a glass of this water along with meals is also an effective cure.
  5. Eating lots of fresh fruits like banana, watermelon and cucumber also cure acidity very effectively.
  6. Drinking lots of water also acts as an acidity controller. Drink at least 2 glasses of water early in the morning to find excellent results.
  7. Avoid over cooked, spicy and preserved foods.
  8. Sucking a small piece of Jaggery after every meal helps in controlling acidity and also helps in good digestion of food.
  9. Eating yoghurt also helps in treating acidity.
  10. Chewing a few leaves of Holy Basil (Tulsi) helps greatly in relieving the burning sensation and curing acidity.
  11. Taking a few teaspoons of raw garlic juice is also an effective remedy.
  12. Eating almonds also help in relieving the burning sensation.
  13. Exercising regularly helps a lot in treating acidity. A slight walk for 40 minutes everyday can also give very good results.
  14. Drinking 2-3 glasses of coconut water everyday is a very effective remedy for acidity.
  15. Avoid eating raw onions and raddish.
