Nowadays, the tension levels regarding work, deadlines, home, children, spouse and many other things is increasing at an alarming rate. As a physician, I myself see a lot of patients in a single week which are affected by the stress and tension of their profession and personal life. The major problem is that issues in one sphere of life can affect the other areas as well.

This can also lead to Uncontrolled Hypertension in which the body’s high blood pressure (140/90 or more) is left uncontrolled or isn’t treated. Studies have stated that approximately three fourth of the hypertension patients don’t take the necessary steps to control B.P. This can be due to lack of time or awareness but not exercising any precaution can lead to severe problems.

Uncontrolled Hypertension is usually caused due to improper medication or not complying to therapy or prescribed medicines. Ignorance and poverty can also cause hypertension. Improper medication issue occurs when a patient fears side effects of the medicine and doesn’t take them or avoiding the high cost of medication.

These people go for medications which are cheaper, low in dosage and many times in both the cases dangerous. Ordinary hypertension can get uncontrolled when a person takes excess amount of alcohol, overlooks his/her obesity, takes wrong mixture of drugs or improper anti-hypertension medication. For normalizing the blood pressure, the above mentioned factors have to be checked regularly.

I advice all of my patients to control their blood pressure otherwise they can fall under the risk of following effects: increased risk of cardiovascular problems; recent studies have also stated that hypertensive patients have greater risks of decreasing mental prowess of speech, memory, reasoning, perception and awareness; the older patients can also experience decline in the above mentioned functions, increased chances of vascular dementia and increased chances of heart problems and stroke.

No one asks for hypertension and everyone is advised to guide themselves against its causes. If occurred, every measure should be taken to control the increasing blood pressure to avoid going to an early grave.
