Cat bite wounds shout be treated with care and one of the most important methods of treating the cat bite wound is the use of antibiotics. Any animal bite should be treated immediately and cat bite is no different. If a cat bites you, then the area where the bite has occurred should immediately be cleaned with antibacterial solution and water. This is the first step in the treatment for cat bite wounds.
Though the antibiotic treatment is the most important for the cat bite wound, the person who was bitten by a cat should be given a tetanus injection if there has been no tetanus injection given in the previous two years.
The main reason for the prescription of antibiotics to a person who has suffered a cat bite is to prevent the occurrence of infection either in the injured site or any other site because of the bite. There are various types of antibiotics that can be given to prevent the infection, but there are certain antibiotics that are usually prescribed because they help to fight the bacteria that are usually found in wounds caused by the cat bites.
The bacteria that are usually seen in the cat bite wounds are staphylococcus and pasterella multocida. These bacteria are usually countered effectively by the antibiotics Augmentin and Zithromax. This is the main reason for these two antibiotics being commonly prescribed to all those who suffer from cat bite wounds.
As far as the method of treating the person is concerned, it depends on the severity of the bite wound in the individual. If the cat bite wound is very severely infected, then intravenous injections of the antibiotics may be preferred by the physician than oral antibiotics.
At the same time, if the person has only very mild wound that is not infected, then the person with the cat bite wound may be prescribed antibiotics like Augmentin or Zinthromax that can be taken orally by the person.
This is the antibiotic treatment that is available for a person who has a cat bite wound.
