A significant incident occurred recently when a middle aged man was continuously fretting when he thought he had sinus when it was actually a common cold.  He later told me that he had been affected by viral infection earlier in his life and had to take a lot of measures to cure that.

After knowing his medical history,  I again checked him for sinus symptoms but he didn’t have any as sinus is fungal whereas cold is infectious. Learning from the experience, following are some of the common symptoms witnessed by a person infected with sinus.

These can be checked to ensure whether there is a problem or just a whim:

1. One might experience a pressure and/or pain in their forehead or eye area. Also, the top of the head might pain and it can get more intense when the head is moved quickly or while bending.
2. The sinus drainage can be of any colour – greenish yellow, clear and can be at times bloody. It might not even drain out the nose. The sinuses are often seen to drain down the throat (and the infected might swallow them).
3. The drainage swallowing often results in upset stomach or nausea.
4. One of the sneakiest symptoms is experience fatigue even after the body should feel totally relaxed. This symptom affects slowly and mostly goes unnoticed. Also, the affected might sleep with his/her mouth open which is caused due to blocking of sinus or nasal passage and specifically at night.
5. The affected, due to clogging of the mucous, might have an impaired sense of taste and/or smell. But, even though the senses of taste and smell are seriously affected, the victim can still taste/smell his/her bad breath. This is one of the most unfortunate symptoms of the fungal disorder.
6. Sore threat and pain in the ears. It is very common to see that the sinus problem has crept to the inside of the ears. The victim might feel usually crappy because of general malaise, fever or unexpected chills.

Suffering from any of the above issue can hamper the general lifestyle of any individual and proper medication and treatment is crucial for improving the quality of life.
