A recent video placed in internet, of a smoking Indonesian kid has shocked health experts and supply supplementary graphic diagram of the Southeast Asian country’s growing dependence to tobacco.
Indonesian officials declared that after the video drew international attention the parents of a two-years-old boy seen smoking in a clip posted on The Sun newspaper’s website are to be investigated.
Child’s father reportedly gave him the first cigarette when he was 18 months old and now he smokes about 40 days. His mother says that he beats his head against the wall if he not gets nicotine, although, his dad claims he is “healthy”.
This case is the second this year when Indonesia has been discomfited by such media reporting. An additional quite similar situation happen with a 4 aged boy. The video has been published on the Internet previous month showing an Indonesian four aged boy puffing on a locally made clove cigarette, blowing smoke rings and swearing with the encouragement of adults.
Anti-smoking objectors and health experts declare that Indonesia is a heaven for the developing tobacco industry, which has extremely expanded sales in the country with population of almost 240 million.
According to the World Health Organization, cigarette utilization in the South-East Asia ascended 47 percent. About 70 percent of men over 20 years old smoke, and ordinary smoking among 15 to 19 aged teenagers increased from 36.8 percent to 42.6 percent. It’s quite incredible that poor families spend more on cigarettes than on books and education.
More and more Indonesian children and grown-ups become victims of tobacco industry. A recent study shows that the average age of beginner smokers is seven.
