Leg joint pain is really a worrisome thing as you find difficulty in walking as well as when standing in one position. If your upper part of body is heavier than the lower part then it aggravates the situation. Leg joint pain is very common in older adults and female population is more prone to it.
Rheumatoid Arthritis: Rheumatoid Arthritis is a chronic inflammation of joints and the tissues adjoining the joints. According to the recent studies near about 1.3 million people in US are affected because of this disease. It can be a hereditary disease and occurs in people who are of 40 years and above. Women are more prone to rheumatoid arthritis.
Rheumatoid arthritis leads to pain, swelling and redness of joints and in some cases cartilage, bone are destroyed which leads to joint deformities.
Diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis is done by examining the joints, going through various blood tests and X-rays.
Rheumatoid Arthritis cannot be cured however taking rest, medicines and doing proper joint exercises can keep it at bay.
Osteoarthritis: Osteoarthritis occurs when there is loss or wear down of a cartilage or a joint.
In US about 20 million of population is affected due to Osteoarthritis and more cases of Osteoarthritis are found in Japan.
Osteoarthritis is found in females who are 55 years of age and above and in males 45 years and above.
Knees, hips, hands and feet are commonly affected in Osteoarthritis and it occurs due to aging and obesity also aggravates Osteoarthritis. It is a hereditary disease.
Diagnosis of Osteoarthritis is done by doing the X-rays of the joints which are affected.
Treatment of Osteoarthritis can be done by following a weight loss programme, proper diet control and avoiding stress on cartilage which are affected.
Septic Arthritis: Septic arthritis occurs due to infection in joints by various microorganisms such as virus, bacteria and fungus. In septic arthritis usually single joint is affected but it can affect more than one joint.
Septic arthritis develops in those people who are diabetic or alcoholic or other joint pains.
Gout: When uric acid is deposited in the joint then it leads to gout which causes a lot of pain and leads to arthritis.
Gout is very common among males and in women it occurs mostly after menopause.
Gout generally affects big toe and can also affect ankles, heels and knees.
Intake of alcohol, stress or drugs can lead to the attack of gout.
Treatment of gout can be done by taking proper medicines and it can be prevented by having loads of water.
Pseudogout: It means‘false gout’. It happens due to the deposition of calcium pyrophosphate in joints which leads to pain and arthritis. It attacks the knees, wrists and shoulders. Person suffering from Pseudogout has acute joint pain, swelling and stiffness.
Diagnosis of Pseudogout is done when calcification is found in the joint above the normal level.
Treatment is done by taking rest, applying ice to the affected area.
