Itchy Rashes Around the Elbows and Behind the Knees

Itchy rash behind the knees and around the elbows could be a real embarrassing one if you are wearing a dress which is a bit short .Itchy rash behind the knees and around the elbows could be due to various reasons. Few of the causes could be as follows:

1. Psoriasis – Psoriasis is a non infectious disease and is considered as a chronic skin condition and occurs in both and female population of the world. Psoriasis can occur to anyone but commonly it is found in young adults. It is characterized by red, sharp itchy patch and it affects the outer side of knees and elbows.

The exact cause of the occurrence of Psoriasis is unknown but is due to genetic and environmental conditions. Treatment however is done by taking steroid injections and if the infected area is small then topical creams, lotions and creams are to be taken.

2. Atopic dermataitis or eczema – Atopic dermatitis is a hereditary and affects a large number of people in world and is usually found in patients suffering from asthma and hay fever.It is itchy, red in color and rash oozes out some sort of fluid.In adults it is found in the inner side of knees and elbow whereas in kids found in outer side.

Atopic Dermatitis can occur at any age but it is found more in kids. Dry skin, allergies due to seasonal changes, soaps and detergents, creams, and cold weather aggravates Atopic dermatitis. At times they become a serious inflammation and treatment is done by using moisturizing creams and steroids.

3. Dermatitis Herpetiformis – Dermatitis Herpetiformis is found mostly among males in their middle adult life. It is said to be a chronic disease where itchy blisters appear around your knees or elbow and while going through various resources I found that it occurs mostly among people living in Scandinavia and the cause of disease is not known.

It is diagnosed by doing a routine physical examination or a skin biopsy. Treatment is done by following gluten- free diet you can use dapsone to treat the rash and it disappears within 2 days.

4. Nummular Dermatitis – The cause of Nummular Dermatitis or Discoid eczema as it is also known as is not known but it can be caused due to an insect bite or dry skin. It can occur at any age. They are disc or oval shaped patches and can stay for few weeks to months and is not infectious in nature.

Treatment can however be done by using steroids and moisturizing creams.

    my elbows are very itche and some time i get blood tooo i dont know what it is it look soo bad i can’t wear tshirt or other dresses its on my elbows , knee and on my butt plzz suggest me somehting

    Hi i need a help from you on upper side of elbow its too itchy and sometimes i get a blood toooooooo . it is from 3 years . i used many many creams its not help full it is in oval shape when iam itching it is becoming larger i don’t know what it is. please please suggest me and iam waiting for the reply thanks padmini
