Insomnia commonly known as sleeplessness is a disorder when you are unable to sleep which is a very common problem worldwide.
According to the recent studies in US near about 40 millions of people suffer from insomnia every year and it mostly affects the female population.
Insomnia could be an acute one which lasts for about a week or so and it is mainly due to depression or stress.
Chronic insomnia usually lasts for a month and it could be the rest of other disorders in body.
What causes Insomnia?
- The main factor which can cause insomnia is stress, money problems, work related tensions and emotional problems are to name a few.
- If a person is suffering from pain due to any injury he/she will be unable to sleep in a comfortable way.
- Hormonal changes in women during pregnancy, menstruation and post menstruation can lead to insomnia.
- When a person ages then there is decreased secretion of Melatonin hormone which leads to loss of sleep in older population.
- Hypothyroidism, Parkinson’s disease, blood pressure and heart disease in patients causes the loss of ability to sleep in patients.
- Many times insomnia is a hereditary disorder running in few families.
- Jet lag can prevent you from sleeping.
- Side effects of some medicines can cause insomnia
- Drinking coffee leads to sleeplessness
- Some people are unable to sleep due to noise in the room.
How to treat Insomnia?
To treat insomnia you can try listening to some good soft music while going to your bed. Music has a soothing effect and will help you to sleep.
- Go for a scalp massage, back massage before sleeping as it relaxes your body muscles and induces sleep.
- Treat yourself by relaxing in a warm bath tub by adding baking soda you will soon feel sleepy.
- Drink Luke warm milk few minutes before going to bed as milk has got properties which relax nerves.
- Avoid taking coffee, chocolates and soft drinks before sleeping as they make your brain stay awake.
- Meditate for about 20 minutes before going to bed as it relaxes your mind and set it free from all stress.
- Drink loads of water every day as it removes toxins and helps you to get proper sleep. However avoid drinking much water during evening time as at night you will feel a constant need to urinate which will lead to sleeplessness.
- I found out that according to the Ayurvedic Research sleeping at about 10 pm every day helps you to get deep sleep.
- Few drops of castor oil applied on eye lids before going to bed induces sleep.
- Say a small prayer before going to sleep.
