Growing old is mandatory and there is no escape from it. As age grows the strength and the stamina of a body gradually diminishes. But exercise can make this growing stage happy and enjoyable. A daily exercise would mean a balanced, healthy body which increases the quality of life. Exercise also improves or keeps intact the blood circulation, energy fluids, immune function and also protects the body from many diseases and deterioration.

Some of the benefits of exercise are:

  • With age the first thing that begins to weaken is the bone. It becomes brittle and can be easily broken with a fall. But bone becomes stronger when a force acts upon them. The more the bones are used more strength it gains. Thus exercise can keep the bones strong even in old age.
  • Exercise also strengthens the connective tissues around bones and muscles which include the tendons, ligaments and cartilage.

Types of workouts that suit the elderly are:

  • 30 x 30 workouts is a basic exercise model which consists of 30 minutes of workout 30 days continuously. A study states that it takes a minimum of 22 days for anything to become a habit. 30 minutes of aerobics reduces the possibility of obesity, heart disease, cancer and diabetics.
  • A water workout is another popular form of exercise which is enjoyable yet effective. It shapes the muscles more than any other form of exercise can. Water workout takes the most energy from the person than any other exercise would need. But the result is equally noticeable.
  • Full body routine is a form of exercise which is performed 6 days with one day off for rest. It is performed in the gym and is a two part exercise. The workout consists of a weight training day which is followed by a aerobic day.
  • Three part series is another form of exercise. It consists of three different elements like flexibility, strength training and enduring. A week consists of 3 days of strength training exercises and the other 3 days of cardio exercises.
