Health Conditions with Headache and Constipation

A headache usually limits an individual’s activities including skipping meals. This results in constipation. Just the opposite way, even constipation can lead to headache due to the stress, hunger and dehydration. Both constipation and headache are observed at one various acute and chronic diseases and also in pregnancy.

Following are some of the health conditions when both head and constipation are experienced simultaneously:

Depression or Anxiety

The main symptoms for depression or anxiety are headache and constipation in addition to loss of appetite and anxiousness.

Premenstrual Syndrome

The symptoms for premenstrual syndrome are seen a week prior to periods. The symptoms include headache, constipation, diarrhea, irritability, mood swings and tender breasts.

Displaced Uterus and Ovaries

Constipation and headache are experienced simultaneously on displacement of ovaries and uterus. This displacement pressurizes the rectum resulting in constipation. The other symptoms for displaced ovaries and uterus are painful menstruation and sharp pain in the lower abdomen.

Dehydration

A commonly seen condition even in healthy individuals, dehydration’s symptoms include dry mouth and severe thirst. The skin turns dry and fatigue and dizziness is observed. The heart rate too increases as does the headache. Constipation occurs as a result of drinking less water.

Fructose Malabsorption

Mistook as irritable bowel in most cases, Fructose malabsorption is stimulated due to foods with high content of sorbitol, fructose and certain fibers. The symptoms include headache, constipation, burping and nausea.

Intestinal Parasites

Intestinal parasites affect even the adults but most commonly seen in children. It can last for longer periods and the symptoms include constipation, headache, and changes in appetite, mucus in stool. The skin too turns itchy and rash.

Hypothyroidism

Headache and constipation are simultaneously observed even in a condition of hypothyroidism. The other symptoms that help distinguish hypothyroidism are weight-gain, intolerance for cold, dry and weak hair, swollen limbs, tiredness and muscle aches.

Anorexia Neurosa

It is psychiatric disorder mostly seen in young women. The patient looses appetite due to various reasons. The symptoms include reduced weight and fatigue along with the commonly noticed headache and constipation.

Pituitary Tumor

These tumors grow gradually over a long period and usually depict signs like headache, constipation, disturbance in vision, dysmenorrheal and anxiety along with various other symptoms.

Lead Poisoning

This is usually observed in children on use of old toys and dust inhaled. Drinking water from lead pipes can also cause lead poisoning which affects the growth and also nerves. The signs for lead poisoning include abdominal cramps, lose of appetite, irritability, lack of concentration, constipation and headache.

Autonomic Dysreflexia

In an autonomic dysreflexia condition, headache and constipation is seen along with a spinal cord injury.
