An allergy is an abnormal response of a person to various harmless substances and conditions like food, drugs, climatic conditions, physical contact etc. The most common allergic symptoms are runny nose, itches, eczema, headache, wet eyes, hives, sneezing, fainting, loss of breath etc. Some serious allergic conditions may also result in death. When a body is sensitive to a substance it releases histamine and produces IgE antibodies which are the main causes of numerous allergic symptoms.

However there are three types of headaches that can result as allergic symptoms.

Sinus Headache: Sinuses are the airy cavities near the cheek bones which are connected to the nasal cavity. Inflammation in the mucosa of the sinuses is caused by various allergies and diseases like Hay fever or dust allergy. These inflammations often obstruct the sinus connections to the nasal cavity resulting in continual mucous secretion. This trapped mucous increases the pressure in the sinus cavity and causes headache and various other symptoms.

A sever headache is the primary symptom of allergic sinusitis which is also called a sinus headache. Other major symptoms of sinusitis are nasal congestion, runny nose, facial pain, sneezing, wet eyes and itchy eyes. Sinus is controlled by avoiding pollens, dust or other allergic substances.

Cluster headache: A cluster headache is a strong and sudden pain around the eyes or behind the eyes usually spreading to the head or face. The headache may last for a few minutes to many hours. This headache usually affects one side of the head or one eye and often occurs at same times. Most patients suffer from this head early in the morning or at nights. Many allergies are found to be causing cluster headaches apart from other abnormalities in the brain.

Migraine Headaches: A migraine is an acute pain on one side or both sides of the head. Other symptoms of migraine are sensitivity to sound and light, nausea and vomiting. Migraines are usually triggered by specific, smells, sounds and lights. Certain foods like cheese, wine, chocolate, caffeine also trigger migraine attacks.
