5 Simple Things Busy People Can Do to Feel Better Now

It’s easy in the hustle and bustle of everyday life to feel run down. From work and home responsibilities, to the way we choose to spend our free time, feeling healthy can seem like an uphill battle. If you want to feel better, however there are some simple ways to improve your health. Take things gradually and ease into these changes, and you will begin to see an improvement in your health, as well as your outlook. These are the things we all know we should probably do, but sometimes fail to see the forest for the trees.

1. Monitor Your Nutrition

Everything we do requires energy. If you always run your car on empty, or don’t maintain the fluids, you will have problems. The same thing goes for your body. You need to eat the right things in order to sustain your body throughout the day. If you don’t eat breakfast, start simple and eat a protein bar or drink a protein shake. Those first calories will help set the bar for how your day goes.

If you are not taking any supplements, start by taking a multivitamin to ensure that your body is receiving all the proper nutrients. Try to break your food intake into smaller, snack-like meals, and most importantly: eat little or nothing at least two hours before going to bed.

2. Start Exercising

Whether you walk a lot at work or spend the entire day sitting down, your body has become accustomed to your habits. Differentiate your exercise patterns and work on different areas of your body at least three times a week. Push-ups and sit-ups do not require a gym membership and can be done practically anywhere.

If you spend a lot of time sitting down, go for a walk for fifteen to twenty minutes every day. You will begin to feel better and see the difference in a very short period of time and feel better about yourself.

3. Get Plenty of Rest

The only time your body can truly heal itself is when you are fully at rest. Make time for the rest of your life, but get plenty of rest every day. The amount of rest recommended varies from person to person, but eight hours should be sufficient. If you are unable to do this or feel fine after six hours, listen to your body. You will know if you feel rested or not.

4. Cut Back on Bad Habits

As the saying goes, everyone has their vice. If you smoke, begin a smoking cessation program. If you drink too much coffee, cut back. If you drink three or more alcoholic beverages a day, cut that back too. Limiting your recreational drinking to weekends will make you feel better and save your money. All of these habits affect multiple areas of your health and well-being, and quitting or cutting back will help you feel better about yourself.

5. Establish a Routine

If you look back through this list, every one of these things is manageable. However, if you establish a routine that combines all of these items, you will be well on your way to feeling great. Wake up each day, get your day started with some food and light exercise, go on with your work or school, then return to your home and rest. Life is about cycles; establish a good cycle and you will thank yourself.
