Sleep is a natural process but creating artificial environment to induce sleep definitely helps in relaxing the nerves which would in turn put the mind and body to rest. There are many factors that could affect a baby’s sleep.
Things to be considered in the day for a better sleep in the night are:
- If the baby wakes up late in the morning it is advisable to wake him up early everyday at the same time.
- When your baby takes naps allow him to take a nap in a well lit environment. This will encourage him to take shorter naps.
- Make it a routine to feed your baby regularly during the day. This will reduce the night time feeds.
- Always carry your baby in a sling or in a baby career. This will relax your baby.
- Avoid over stimulating your baby before the he goes to sleep in the night. If your baby feels relaxed after a bath then try bathing him before he hits the bed in the night but instead if a bath stimulates your baby then always bathe him way before the night.
- Try relating the concept of sleep with night. If your baby wakes up in the middle of the night for a feed then nurse him in the dark.
Things you can do in the night to encourage sleep:
- In the night try associating the sleep with some objects which would slowly act as a stimulus for sleep. Objects like a blanket, a soft toy, a lullaby, a bed time story or darkness. Always keep in mind that the objects you choose are the ones that will relax your baby and instead would not serve as a stimulant. Like avoid buying toys which makes sound or which plays music.
- Treat day different than night by laying him on a different place in the day and in a different place in the night. In the night feed him in a dark and quite environment while make his day time feeds very social.
- You could encourage your older baby to go to sleep on his own in order to get him used to the idea of going to sleep on his own.

Valid points. It is necessary to set time for kids to sleep every night and not to excite them before going to sleep. However, many parents let their children play late into night.
Nevertheless, it is essential that parents put their children to bed well before they retire. Also taking a toy or dolls while going to bed would help children to get sleep easily.
