Dr. Timothy Daskivich of the University of California says that “We often don’t know what to tell these men in terms of their risk of dying of prostate cancer.”

ProstateCancer can be detected only by doing blood test which measures concentrations of prostate-specific antigen , a protein that was made in prostate that becomes elevated in men with prostate cancer.

If it is treated with the radiation or by doing surgery then prostate-specific antigen levels are checked ,if it shows any increase in prostate-specific antigen levels then it is sign of recurrence of prostate cancer. Biochemical recurrence means rising in prostate-specific antigen levels after having treatment may sometimes lead to death in man is not clear.

Dr. Edward M. Uchio of the VA Connecticut Healthcare System in West Haven and his team had observed 623 men who are having prostate cancer between 1991 and 1995 were under observation for 16 years after doing treatment. Out of this by 2006 387 men were died, 48 men were died due to prostate cancer. Men who had went surgery and removed their prostate, after 15 years of treatment 37 percent had biochemical recurrence.

The risk of dying for these men was 11 percent at 5 years, 20 percent at 10 years, and 42 percent at 15 years.
