Increase in Mental illness in the teenage students

Day-By-Day many college students were getting mental illness, according to the information submitted at  the annual meeting of the American Psychological Assn. in San Diego.

This study carried out on nearly 3,265 college students who went for campus counseling services from September 1997 to August 2009.In this teenage student are checked for the suicidal thoughts and mental disorders.

However, this study shown a surprising result, in 1998 nearly 93% percent of college students attended for counseling are suffered with only one mental disorder when compared with 96% of college students in 2009.

In addition, students who are suffering from moderate to severe depression increased from 34% to 41%, students depending on psychiatric medications had also raised from 11% to 24%.

After having counseling, students who had thought of suicide reduced from 26% in 1998 to 11% in 2009- shows better improvement in prevention of suicide thoughts in the college students.

John Guthman , the lead author of the study from Hofstra University stated “. . .our findings may suggest that students with severe emotional stress are getting better education, outreach and support during childhood that makes them more likely to attend college than in the past”.

Programs like Half of Us and active mind are available for college students to assist them in mental illness.
