Tips on how to avoid Motion sickness
Humans maintain their equilibrium due to the external information regarding the surroundings that they receive by hearing and seeing.
When a difference occurs between what the ears and the eyes register, then we can talk about motion sickness. Not everyone gets motions sickness, but when it is installed, everyone can recognize it: dizziness, nausea, pale skin and extra sweating are all symptoms of this unpleasant affection.
Most often the moment you realize you have motion sickness is already too late for stopping those awful sensations, and you can only reduce their intensity with the help of some tips; the next time you will know what you have to do before you go on a boat or in a plane, or even for a longer journey by car in order to avoid getting motion sickness.
1. When traveling always sit with the face in the same direction of movement. As long as your eyes see the same motion that your ears and body receive, you minimize the chances of getting motion sickness. Also try not to read while being in motion as you will only make things worse for you.
2. Travel during the night. Sometimes it is best to travel at night as you will not be able to see movements in the same clear way you see them during the day and this might help you minimize your motion sickness.
3. Avoid heavy perfumes and unpleasant smells. Even if you wear a quality perfume that you might love, during traveling is best to stay away from any source of smell. Nausea can be triggered by any type of smell, including engine smoke or just the smell of an aftershave.
4. Think twice before drinking a small glass of alcohol. Many people might think that a little bit of alcohol will give them enough courage to get in a plane or on a boat, but this gesture will only make things worse. Too much alcohol influences a lot the way the brain receives external information and it can trigger motion sickness quite easily.
5. Be careful what you eat. If you know you are predisposed to motion sickness you should be careful not too eat too much before going in your journey. Eat some crackers or a salad and stick to the aliments you know you enjoy most. If you feel nausea you can try eating a slice of lemon or three or four olives. They are known to reduce nausea at once.
6. Before going on a journey it is best to be precautious and buy a few pills that prevent motion sickness. Remember to take them before as if you take them after the symptoms have installed, they will not work any more.
7. The last tip is to stay away from people who already have motion sickness. Trying to help them will only get you in their shoes.
