Cancer is the most awful disease one could think of. Doctors consider it to be the disease of the 21st century. No one wants to find out one day that cancer has affected his body and he will have to go through radiotherapy and pass a difficult surgery to get well again. This is why we should know a little bit of information about different types of cancer that can affect us and learn how to prevent them.

In the last few years a lot of people aged over 40 have been diagnosed with colon cancer. In 1996 statistics say that 133500 new people were diagnosed with colorectal cancer and 54900 of them did not make it until today. In the USA, colorectal cancer is considered to be the secondary cause of death after the pulmonary cancer.
As you can see, cancer is not something to joke about. It is best to prevent this affection before having to treat it and deal with it. Here are a few advices on how to prevent colorectal cancer:
The key in preventing the colorectal cancer is to eat a lot of vegetables and fruit and to lower the amount of fat intake. Studies have shown that those who have eaten in this way have decreased tremendously their risk of having colorectal cancer in the future. It is important to eat aliments that are rich in antioxidants: peppers, oranges, strawberries, and carrots. The cabbage, broccoli and Brussels sprouts are rich in natural substances that fight the cancer. Beans, peas and whole grain foods seem to also have a positive effect in what concerns colorectal cancer prevention.
Those who follow a rich in fiber diet are also protected against colorectal cancer. The folic acid that is found in the leafy vegetables, grains and legumes has also proven its usefulness in the fight against cancer.
Fruits are good for anyone not just for those who want to avoid colorectal cancer. They bring our body the A, C vitamins and also give minerals, nutrients and fiber. According to many doctors, in preventing the colorectal cancer the following fruits are indicated: mangos, berries, cantaloupes, persimmons, papayas and dried apricots.
Besides following a proper diet there are a few things that need to be avoided in order to prevent cancer: give up smoking. Statistics say that long term smokers have an increased risk of having colorectal cancer than non-smokers. Another tip is to live an active lifestyle. Not only it will keep cancer away from you, but it will also improve your heart system, your digestion and your state of mind.
Adopting a few cancer prevention methods in our lifestyle will not be such a great sacrifice to make for a lot of us, considering that we might just save our life with this action.
