Breast cancer has transformed into a serious threat for the women’s lives in the last few years and it seems that every year 255.000 new cases are being registered. Due to this major number increase of women affected by this illness a lot of governmental and non governmental programs have been launched to encourage women to visit their currant doctor and receive information about the basic prevention methods for this affection.
This article has been written for all the women in the world in the attempt of helping them avoid breast cancer and in case they get ill, to detect their cancer in early stages of the disease when treatment is still possible. Breast cancer is lethal if not diagnosed and treated in time. It seems that in USA breast cancer holds the second place for mortality caused by cancers. In Europe things are not much different than in USA.
Specialists say that there are a few factors that can increase the risk of developing breast cancer:
- women that have had their first menstruation at an early age;
- women that have NOT given birth to a child have an increased risk of developing breast cancer than women who have given birth;
- women that gave birth to a child at a very young age;
- oral contraceptives-if it is used for too much long;
- hormone therapy based on estrogens and no progestatives(if taken after menopause);
- heredity-if your mother or sister have had breast cancer than you present a certain risk of having breast cancer too;
- a rich fat diet;
- alcohol intake;
- to much exposure to X-rays ( having too many X-rays done during the lifetime can increase the risk of developing breast cancer)
All women are being advised to perform a monthly check on their breasts. It is best to do this a few days after your menstruation ahs passes as the breasts are not that painful any more and some hormonal nodules are not present any more. If you do not longer have menstruation you can choose a date in the calendar to do this every month. Do not be ashamed and ask your current doctor on how to check your breasts. This can save your life!
Any modification you see or feel on the skin of your breasts or deep inside one of them has to be analyzed further by a doctor. Lumps, discharges from the breast, pains should make you go to the doctor.
A mammography, the medical resonance imaging test, a biopsy and a cytological exam are the steps the doctor will follow for finding out if you have breast cancer or not.
Detected in an early stage, only a small part of the breast can be taken out, without a negative visual impact afterwards. In more advanced stages the breast can be taken out entirely and replaced with a silicone substitute, or if the breast cancer is too advanced than nothing can be done to stop its evolution. Chemotherapy, radiotherapy and hormonal therapy with Tamoxifen are used as therapeutically adjuvants.
Breast cancer is nothing to be ashamed of. Talking with a doctor in time, adopting a healthy lifestyle and following the prescribed treatment can do a lot of miracles especially when faith is still present.
