Small steps to follow for relieving joint pain

Joint pain affects millions of people, and interferes with the good going of their lives, limiting their normal activities, making them depressive and irascible. There are a few keys to controlling joint pain and not letting it rule over your life.

1. The perfect diet. It is very important for people suffering of joint problems to maintain a normal weight. Any kilogram added to the body is a burden to the joints and can add more destruction to the cartilage. The ideal diet should bring all the basic nutrients to the body, including minerals (calcium and iron) that support the general condition of the body. Fibers are also great in such a diet as they are low in calories and do not increase your body weight. Besides that they also play an important part in the body’s detoxification process: they collect all the inflammatory toxins and bad hormones that might aggravate your joint pain and lead them outside your body. Supplements like glucosamine and chondroitin are also recommended for a good functioning of the joints.

2. Exercising. You might think that by exercising you will only make your joint pain worse. You are wrong, as exercising daily for half an hour will reduce the rigidity of your joints, will maintain the firmness of your muscles (this is important as muscles support the normal position of the joints and do not let them glide over during normal movements, preventing this way the joint pain) and will also diminish joint pain. Sometimes it is best to do your exercises after taking a hot shower as it is known that hot water helps joints to relax and this way you will not feel so much pain while exercising.
Stretching is also a great ally against joint pain. You should begin with light moves that do not solicit too much your joints and only after feeling more mobile you should pass to more complex movements.

3. Buy good shoes. If you have discovered that walking helps you reduce joint pain you should go for it. But you should consider first buying a quality pair of shoes, that are light, do not make your feet sweat and are adequate to long walking.

4. When the pain bothers you, rely on ibuprofen. This drug reduces pain immediately and also keeps away inflammations. If you do not suffer of stomach ulcer you can take one pill of ibuprofen when needed.
